Sprocket Replica/Contact UsInvestors Wary/Equity Scarce
Development of capital-intensive projects is challenging these days. Although the country is in a credit-crunch, there appears to be sufficient capital ready for investment in many markets. Yet investors are being extremely cautious and hesitant. They are looking more closely, stretching due diligence, and striving to eliminate or mitigate perceived risks.

A scale model of a project or product can reap considerable benefits to reassure investors, buyers, or tenants that project elements have been carefully considered and factored. A scale model can become the tangible representation that can bridge the gap between drawings/plans/pro-formas to breaking ground or mobilizing production.

The large percentage of Scale Reproduction's clients over the past decades have utilized models to help close the deal; and in today's climate a scale model may be an inexpensive key to getting the final commitment from your stakeholders.

Retirement!Scale Repro Staff Announcements

Darwin Nothwehr was recently selected as Scale Reproduction's new General Manager, in light of the retirement of Charles Phillips. Darwin brings us management and technology experience across several industries, as well as a thorough understanding of producing custom-quality deliverables that exceed expectations of clients.

We will miss Charlie's leadership and insight into this dynamic industry, yet we're lucky he will continue to work with Scale Reproductions in a consulting role for marketing, technical support, and special projects. We will thus continue to benefit from Charlie's extensive knowledge of the modeling and replica business. Charlie has led the company for over 11 years and has seen it grow from a "small shop" to one of the most progressive and well known scale modeling companies.

We wish Charlie a wonderful retirement, and we look forward to the innovation and leadership that Darwin will bring! Yet there is even more afoot.

In February Mitzi Gilchrist moved into the Sales Manager role at Scale Reproductions, thus expanding and strengthening our ability to quickly meet our customers' needs while maintaining the continuity of quality consistent with our reputation. Mitzi's previous role at Scale Reproductions was as a Project Team Leader, and prior to that she was in the commercial architectural business.

When you call Scale Reproductions, Christine Horner, our Administrator, may be the first person to greet you. You will find that if Chris can not immediately respond to your question, she can direct you to the appropriate contact within the Scale Repro organization. For example, Project Team Leaders for your projects might include Mike Celeskey and Jeff Darby - - also well equipped to walk through any project detail. We'll introduce more of our team in the next newsletter.

The Team at Scale Reproductions is poised to handle any project large or small.  We look forward to working with you.

ANATOMY OF A REPLICA

(First in a 3-part Series)

Have you ever wondered what activities must happen to make a museum quality model? Scale Reproductions, LLC deals in this environment each day and we can break it down into three stages of process. The stages are:

1) Customer scope and expectation.

2) Hands on processing of the details.

3) Final prep and delivery.

This issue of our newsletter will deal with the first stage of the process. The next two newsletters will cover the remaining stages in succession. We hope you find this series of Anatomy of a Replica informative.

Stage 1

This stage is completely consumed by information gathering of the customer's expectations. The Model Maker or Team Leader must be clear on the scope of the project which includes specific scale size. Is the model to be used in a stationary display or is the model to be used in a show environment where it will be moved from location to location? Are moving parts required? The color match of all areas is critical. What one person calls blue may be another persons' aqua. It is always best if the customer can supply CAD Drawings or prints. When that is not available color photos' are your next best friend. The final part of this stage is to know how fine of detail the customer expects. What do I mean by that? Does the customer want to show all water markings on the ship? Does the customer want the cornerstone of the building to be legible. Is the propeller of the bi-plane to have a oak wood grain?

The key to this stage is to know what the customer wants. Stage two will discuss how to do it? Tune in to the next issue.
